The Corner and the Community for Christian Fiction
I’m thankful for the golden days of fall, like a colorful time capsule before temperatures drop and we’re thrust into a new season. I’m thankful for YOU too, that you’re visiting my corner and this great community! I’m thankful for your love of uplifting books that can stimulate and encourage your faith. Not just any books, but books that lift your heart. I hope mine do. That’s my goal. I’m thankful for so much more. (The list can go on…)
So, as time passes, so many things happen! Here are some updates for you!
First, a Personal Update
Every year I get to go to the beach for up to a week with friends. I’ve been doing this for years, though this year I had to cut it short due to my mom’s declining health. I know many of you have been through this and I appreciate your sympathy and prayers!
The trip was a wonderful, relaxing time, even though it was shorter (and we had a hurricane in the offing…) Here is a photo that still gives me peace when I see it. (It’s on my computer desktop!)
A week ago, I moved my mother into an assisted living residence. It was a lot of work and stress and this continues (with address changes, medication management, unpacking boxes…) I am very pleased so far with the residence. I’m more reassured for her safety, and she actually seems to like it!
What God is teaching me through all this
One big thing I’ve had to learn over the last few years is how to let go. How to allow God to be all he wants to be in a situation. A challenge. Sometimes a mountain.
If I plan and program and try to control, I don’t allow him the chance to come through for me.
Through the transition for my mother, I prayed that God would show me how big he is so that I could rest in his unlimited love, power, and sufficiency. When my mother claimed (adamantly!) she wasn’t moving and I had already tried all my own arguments, I cried out to him. He came through, not via my strategies, but through my mom’s sister, my aunt, who explained everything to her in a way she understood. She finally agreed that it was best for her. It helps to have some back-up from someone else, but I know who was really behind this breakthrough!
What I’ve been working on
A few pieces of news for you, since I was too wordy in the previous section! I try to keep my updates short enough to be interesting without taking too much of your time!
Starting November 1, there will be a promo on my book One December. If you’re subscribed to my newsletter, you’ll see the details there next week. Otherwise, you can find them on social media next week.
I’m planning to do another promotion of my own on my author store later in November., so stay tuned.
Also, starting this month, you can get both paperbacks and eBooks on the site. (Think paperbacks for the readers on your Christmas list!)
This month, I had the opportunity to be interviewed on a podcast, The Christian Romance Podcast with Kelly Jo Wilson. It will be aired in late November, so I will let you know when it’s available to listen to. Kelly’s podcast is one of the rare destinations where you can hear about YOUR type of books. The ones that inspire you and spur you on in your life of faith. I encourage you to check it out.
In the podcast we discussed my books, background, and my heart for fiction in general and my new book, Postcard from Nice in particular (Read Chapter One Here!)
I’ve begun outlining the next book in the Brenner Falls Romance Series. You may know that I’ve put books 1-3 into a box set, but that does not mean the series won’t continue. Oh, yes it will! I have the next two books hopping around in my little head already.
There’s a lot to look forward to and especially a lot we can be thankful for this month!
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you and your loved ones.
Gratefully,
Kyle
Postcard from Nice Learn More!
My husband and I go almost every weekend (3 hours one way) to help my 85 and 86 year old parents. We’ve been doing it for a year now. It’s exhausting and emotion/mentally draining at times. However, I know how blessed we are to have them on this earth. Prayers for your mom and you.
Thank you, Elizabeth! I know this situation resonates with many people. God has provided many “fellow-travelers” who are in this or have gone through it. I should have mentioned in my thankfulness blogpost that I’m thankful she’s still with me. Prayers for you too, since you make big efforts driving 6 hours round trip. I’m sure your parents are encouraged and blessed by this. 🙂
